Introduction of prayer:
Allah Kareem states in the previous verse about the people of Paradise. They will be entered in Paradise and they will enjoy the delights of Paradise happily. They and their spouses will be seated on the thrones under the shade of trees. They will have therein fruits of all kinds and types. Here, they will be greeted by the Lord with the word “salam”(peace).
Exposition and virtues of prayer:
1- سَلَـٰمٌۭ قَوْلًۭا مِّن رَّبٍّۢ رَّحِيمٍۢ (“Peace!” – a word (of salutation) from a Lord Most Merciful!):
سَلَـٰمٌۭ Is one of the Blessed Names of Allah Kareem. It means the Most Perfect, the Source of peace and the Giver of blessings. Allah As-Salaam is the One who is free from all imperfections. He is perfect in essence and in all His attributes and actions. He is the Perfection. As-Salaam is safe from all deficiencies and His creation is safe from any injustice on His Part.
هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْقُدُّوسُ ٱلسَّلَـٰمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُ ٱلْمُهَيْمِنُ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْجَبَّارُ ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرُ ۚ سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
He is Allah—there is no god except Him: the King, the Most Holy, the All-Perfect, the Source of Serenity, the Watcher ˹of all˺, the Almighty, the Supreme in Might, the Majestic. Glorified is Allah far above what they associate with Him ˹in worship˺! (Surah Al-Hashr: 23)
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) used to supplicate Allah Kareem by calling this Bounteous Name of Allah Kareem;
عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ، قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا انْصَرَفَ مِنْ صَلاَتِهِ اسْتَغْفَرَ ثَلاَثًا وَقَالَ “ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ السَّلاَمُ وَمِنْكَ السَّلاَمُ تَبَارَكْتَ ذَا الْجَلاَلِ وَالإِكْرَامِ ”
Thauban reported:
When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) finished his prayer. He begged forgiveness three times and said: O Allah! Thou art Peace, and peace comes from Thee; Blessed art Thou, O Possessor of Glory and Honour. (Sahih Muslim: 591)
Salam is the greeting word in this world for the followers of Islam. It will also be said by Allah Kareem for the people of Paradise. When the angels take the soul, if that person is found good and pure, the angels will say to him, “Peace be upon you, enter Paradise for the work that you used to do.
ٱلَّذِينَ تَتَوَفَّىٰهُمُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ طَيِّبِينَ ۙ يَقُولُونَ سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱدْخُلُوا۟ ٱلْجَنَّةَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
those whose souls the angels take while they are virtuous, saying ˹to them˺, “Peace be upon you! Enter Paradise for what you used to do.”(16: 32)
Benefits of prayer:
This prayer can be recited for peace, blessings, protection, well-being and healing from all kinds of diseases. It also can be recited in fear and trouble. It is the best remedy for a restless and anxious mind. This verse is considered one of the most effective healing verse of the Qur’an.
How to recite this prayer?
- Recite Salawat upon Sayyidna Muhammad (pbuh) at least three times
- Recite this prayer for 100 times
- Recite Salawat upon Sayyidna Muhammad (pbuh)
