Prayer After Finishing The Rain

Introduction of prayer:

This prayer is from Sahih Al-Bukhari: Chapter Call to Prayer, Hadith: 846. The blessed way to enjoy the rain is to response the Mercy of Allah according to Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). It is narrated from the Prophet (pbuh);

Narrated Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani:

The Prophet (ﷺ) led us in the Fajr prayer at Hudaibiya after a rainy night. On completion of the prayer, he faced the people and said, “Do you know what your Lord has said (revealed)?” The people replied, “Allah and His Apostle know better.” He said, “Allah has said, ‘In this morning some of my slaves remained as true believers and some became non-believers; whoever said that the rain was due to the Blessings and the Mercy of Allah had belief in Me and he disbelieves in the stars, and whoever said that it rained because of a particular star had no belief in Me but believes in that star. (Sahih Bukhari: 846)

Explanation & virtues of prayer:

مُطِرْنَا بِفَضْلِ اللَّهِ وَرَحْمَتِهِ (We are given rain due to the blessing and mercy of Allah):

Rain is called pure water and a sign of Mercy of the Lord;

He is the One Who sends down rain after people have given up hope, spreading out His mercy. He is the Guardian, the Praiseworthy. (Surah Ash-Shura: 28)

And He is the One Who sends the winds ushering in His mercy, and We send down pure rain from the sky. (Surah Al-Furqan: 48)

Allah Almighty, the Protector, the Worthy of all praise sends down rain bestowing His mercy. Rain is considered a great sign of Allah’s mercy because it’s all upon His decreed to shower the rain or stop it. He Almighty has all control over all the universe. He showers the blessed water from heavens taking care of what will benefit the creatures, and the consequences of all His decrees and actions are good, for which He is worthy of all praise.

Some time Allah Kareem stops the rain even earth and people are in severe need of water. This is just to draw the attention of people to clear the fact that rain and famine are all in the power of Allah Kareem whenever He wants, He stops rain because of people’s misdeeds, etc., so that people turn their attention towards His kindness, and display their humility and dependence. If rains had been subject to a strict time-table without any deviation, people would have considered rains to be purely subject to apparent causes, and would have become inattentive to Allah’s Almighty’s power.

When Allah Kareem makes the people happy by showering a profitable rain they must be praiseful to Him. It is His grace that He Almighty sends down pure and sweet water to drink, if He desires He could make it salty and bitter;

Have you considered the water you drink? Is it you who bring it down from the clouds, or is it We Who do so? If We willed, We could make it salty. Will you not then give thanks?(Surah Al-Waqi’ah: 68-70)

As a believer we should be thankful for this great blessing of Allah. The Prophet (pbuh) has taught the words to be said when we have a fruitful rain. We should pay thankfulness to Almighty for his mercy and gratitude according to Sunnah of holy Prophet (pbuh). Every believer must recite the above mentioned Du’a after having a good profitable rain. The more we will be thankful to Allah Kareem the more we will be blessed.
