Introduction of prayer:
Eating every time, uncontrolled hunger or extreme food cravings create many physical and psychological problems. It may lead to obesity issues and weight gain. In medical terms, this condition is called Hyperphagia. Someone with hyperphagia may experience intense or constant hunger. It can be controlled by medicines but we must take the help of prayers.
Exposition & virtues of prayer:
وَفِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ رِزْقُكُمْ وَمَا تُوعَدُونَ
In heaven is your sustenance and whatever you are promised.
The plain and simple interpretation of this is that ‘in heaven’ here means what has been written in the Preserved Tablet (Al-Lauh-ul-Mahfuz). It is clear that man’s sustenance, what has been promised to him and whatever its consequences will be – are all preserved in the Preserved Tablet. (M’arif ul Qur’an)
There is a beautiful Hadith narrated from the Holy Prophet (pbuh);
عَنْ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُقَالُ إِنَّ أَحَدًا لَنْ يَمُوتَ حَتَّى يَسْتَكْمِلَ رِزْقَهُ فَأَجْمِلُوا فِي الطَّلَبِ .
“No one will die until his provision is completed for him, so behave correctly in your seeking it.”(Al-Muwatta: Book: 46, Hadith: 10)
Some scholars say that ‘sustenance’ here signifies “rain”. (Qurtubi) Rain brings fresh water and revives the earth from dead to alive. Rain is necessary for life. It irrigates the crops and gardens. The Qur’an describes rain as sustenance for all creatures;
And We send down blessed rain from the sky, bringing forth gardens and grains for harvest, and towering palm trees ˹loaded˺ with clustered fruit, ˹as˺ a provision for ˹Our˺ servants. And with this ˹rain˺ We revive a lifeless land. Similar is the emergence ˹from the graves˺. (50: 9)
How to recite prayer?
- Recite Salawat upon Sayyidna Muhammad (pbuh) three times
- Recite the verse 11 times
- Recite Salawat upon Sayyidna Muhammad (pbuh)
- Blow it in water
- Drink this water before eating
